The OPPO A96 phone is out now in Australia, with the $399 handset offering another entry-level option for budget-conscious consumers.
Off the back of the mobile company’s flagship Find X5 series, the OPPO A96 is a more affordable phone with plenty of features to its name. For starters, the A96 has a 90Hz 6.59-inch display at an above-FHD resolution of 1080×2412. Depending on what you’re using it for, the Adaptive Refresh Rate Technology adjusts the refresh rate to be smooth when needed while preserving battery life. For ease of unlocking, you can use either your fingerprint on the phone’s side or facial recognition.
As for said battery, the OPPO A96’s 5000mAh battery unit supports 33W SUPERVOOCTM fast charging so a 30-minute charge boosts the phone to just over half capacity. Internally, the A96 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G Mobile Platform chip, with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage powering the Android 11 device. OPPO claims the A96 is capable of better multi-tasking and a smoother overall experience, plus you can bump the storage up via the Micro SD card slot.
On its rear, you’ll find a dual-camera array including a 50MP rear camera designed to house a high pixel count and photosensitivity. This camera also supports 5x digital zoom and up to 20 snaps in burst photography. Also included in the array is a 2MP bokeh camera, enabling Portrait Mode photography with soft-focus backgrounds – ideal for capturing that bokeh effect of light sources in the distance.
Meanwhile, the OPPO A96’s front-facing camera is 16MP, aided by several features including AI Natural Retouching and the 360-degree Fill Light feature, which helps to brighten and increase the clarity of photos taken in low-light environments.
With the camera and photography a major focus of any modern phone, the OPPO A96 also includes a range of features aimed at increasing the photography capabilities of a budget phone. These features include AI Palette, Neon Portrait, Flash Snapshot, and Selfie HDR, all geared towards versatility in a range of settings.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a phone announcement without mention of the colour options on offer. Locally, the OPPO A96 is currently available in Starry Black and Sunset Blue. Now out across major Australian retailers in-store and online, the latest from OPPO makes a strong case for a decent budget phone packed with attractive photography features.
