Flashy LG Gram Style shakes up the premium laptop market

Made for looks as well as performance, the sleek LG Gram Style laptop is now out in Australia.

It first turned heads at CES 2023 earlier in the year off the back of its iridescent design and slim chassis. Two 14-inch models have made it to Australia, with no word on the 16-inch variant mentioned at CES.

Other than its striking design, one of the LG Gram Style laptop’s main eye-catching features is its haptic touchpad that lights up upon touch.

LG Gram Style laptop details and specifications

Both 14-inch models (14Z90RS-G.AA74A and 14Z90RS-G.AA54A) house near-identical specs. In fact, the only difference between the two is the CPU. One houses a 13th Gen Intel Core i5-1340P processor, while the other has a more powerful i7-1360P processor. Both laptops rely on integrated Iris Xe graphics, so don’t expect either to be a graphical powerhouse.

On the display front, the LG Gram Style comes with a 2880 x 1800 resolution OLED screen that caps out at a 90Hz refresh rate. It continues the trend of laptops adopting OLED panels as the technology becomes cheaper to produce, with Asus another brand spruiking the benefits of OLED. Another OLED laptop that’s recently impressed us is the latest Lenovo Yoga 9i which has a far more traditional design than the Style’s modernist approach.

When you look at the specs of LG’s newest laptop, it’s fairly similar to the company’s 15-inch SuperSlim model out soon. On paper, three main differentiators emerge between the SuperSlim and Style laptops. As hinted at by its design, the Style appears to be a more premium offering, including a higher resolution display, a larger battery (72Wh vs SuperSlim’s 60Wh), and more ports.

Like the SuperSlim, the LG Gram Style weighs less than a kilo, adding to a long list of highly portable laptops cramming more technology into a small chassis. As you can see on the specs table, it’s an expensive laptop. At the moment, JB Hi-Fi has a deep launch discount that lists the i5 model for $2,379 and the i7 version for $2,589.

It’s undoubtedly a stylish laptop, although the value proposition may get tested once LG confirms the price of its SuperSlim sibling.
