It’s been a while since I saw a router design that caught my eye. After years of making gaming routers that look like alien spaceships, manufacturers seem to have toned it down a bit, like the boxy aesthetic of the upcoming ROG Strix GS-BE18000. Then I saw the ROG Rapture GT-BE98. Outlandish router designs are here to stay, baby.
The ROG Rapture GT-BE98 has actually been out for a little while, being one of the first Wi-Fi 7 gaming routers to hit the market. It made news recently for winning “Best Router” at the 2025 European Hardware Awards, so it’s got some credentials.
Its spider-like antennas drive the GT-BE98’s Wi-Fi 7 technology, including the faster 6GHz network band, and wider 320MHz channels. Put simply, it goes fast and transmits more data at any given time than older Wi-Fi technologies.
ROG, Asus’ gaming brand, advertises the router as supporting speeds of up to 25Gbps, although no one in Australia is getting close to that. Still, a high throughput is handy for connecting multiple devices simultaneously, so everyone gets a fair slice of the internet pie.
Two 10Gbps and four 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports provide plenty of wired connectivity options, too. Like the to-be-released ROG Strix GS-BE18000, the Rapture GT-BE98 has a dedicated gaming port, prioritising traffic to your gaming PC or console.
The router can also double as a media server, with a couple of USB ports available to plug in storage drives. Plus, it also works with compatible AiMesh routers to strengthen the network throughout your gaming den.
Priced at $1,499 in Australia, the ROG Rapture GT-BE98 is one of the more premium gaming routers available. At the time of writing, it was down to $999 on Amazon, so there are savings available on this sci-fi-looking device.
