Motorola may have just set the new standard for what to expect from a phone battery, announcing the Edge 60 Pro, replete with a huge 6,000mAh battery capacity.
Based on my review-in-progress from using the phone for nearly a week, size does indeed matter. Lasting longer than any other phone I’ve tested, the Edge 60 Pro builds even further on the brand’s already-strong battery pedigree.
That longevity comes at a higher cost, however. Motorola has priced the Edge 60 Pro at $1,199 in Australia (same as the new Razr 60 flip phone), $200 more than last year’s Edge 50 Pro. This year’s model also doesn’t have the same 125W wired charging speeds, but 90W is more than enough for most people, and more than most phones.
Another interesting move is the transition away from a Snapdragon processor. Instead, the new phone uses the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Extreme chipset, along with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.
Elsewhere, the Edge 60 Pro’s cameras are similar year-on-year, including a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The main upgrade here is the 50MP ultra-wide shooter, a change from last year’s 13MP technology. In theory, that should mean more capacity to crop wide-angle photos and close-up shots snapped in macro mode.
Once again, Motorola’s main traditional phone comes with a 1220p pOLED screen. This time around, the brightness cranks up to 4,500 nits at its peak, considerably brighter than the previous phone.
Hitting Australian retailers and online stores on 10 July, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro comes in two colours: Pantone Shadow and Pantone Sparkling Grape. Or, in plain English: pale green and purple.
Camera quality and battery life are big factors behind why people choose one phone over another. So far, it looks like this phone has both bases well and truly covered.
