Oppo updates its A77 for 5G

Oppo’s affordable phone range expands once again, with the local release of the Oppo A77 5G, an upgraded and redesigned version of the 2017 device.

It comes in two models: a $449 version with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, and a $499 variant packing 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. From the outset, the Oppo A77 5G does away with the original phone’s thicker bezel and home button in favour of a larger 6.56-inch display. It’s not quite Full HD, however, as the resolution maxes out at 1612 x 720, but runs at up to a 90Hz refresh rate and 600-nit peak brightness. Built on the MediaTek Dimensity 810 processor, the A77 5G houses eight cores with a 2.4GHz maximum clock speed.

Oppo touts the A77’s 5000mAh battery as a major feature alongside its 33W SUPERVOOC fast charging technology – similar to the A96 handset from earlier in the year. According to the company’s internal testing, a full recharge takes just over an hour, while you can quickly get a half-charge in 30 minutes. For enjoying multimedia content, the new phone uses ultra-linear stereo speaker technology, a dual speaker setup for producing surround sound audio without headphones.

From a photography perspective, the Oppo A77 5G houses a rear dual camera array featuring a 48MP main camera, plus a 2MP depth camera. Both sensors are capable of wide apertures – the main camera goes as wide as f/1.7 – enabling shallow depth-of-field photography with softly blurred backgrounds. In addition to the 8MP selfie camera, the A77 5G features a Portrait Retouching mode to give your face a touch-up before sharing with the world.

Available in either Ocean Blue or Midnight Black, the Oppo A77 5G phone is out now across major Australian retailers and the Oppo website.

Strictly speaking from a specifications perspective, the A77 5G isn’t as powerful as the slightly cheaper 4G-only A96 device. However, it does make for an affordable 5G phone, which is the main selling point here.
