Fire TV gets Binge and Kayo apps in time for Succession finale

Amazon’s Fire TV devices now have native apps for popular Australian streaming services Binge and Kayo Sports, making the entertainment ecosystem even more well-rounded.

Both apps are from the local media giant, Foxtel, providing the latest TV shows, movies, and sports. Binge has exclusive local rights to HBO shows like Succession, Barry, and The White Lotus, while Kayo streams more sports than you poke a cricket bat at.

It’s perfect timing, considering both two of HBO’s biggest series just aired their hotly-anticipated finales. Media mogul drama Succession follows a wealthy family’s power struggles over who will take over the patriarch’s empire, while Barry juxtaposes a hitman’s desire to leave his old life behind in favour of becoming an actor.

Fire TV ecosystem gets even more content

Although you still need a subscription to each respective streaming service, it’s convenient having more apps available in one place. For those used to asking Alexa to help manage a smart home, Binge and Kayo are big gets for Amazon.

This means if you have an Amazon device like the Fire TV Stick 4K Max or a Fire TV Cube, you now have more flexibility. These devices plug directly into your TV’s HDMI port and act as your smart hub for streaming entertainment. It’s a simple way of adding smart capabilities to older TVs or connecting a display to an Alexa-enabled device.

Following the additions of Binge and Kayo to Fire TV, there are now over 200,000 movies and TV shows for Australians to watch. Alongside the newly added apps are Amazon’s Prime Video, Netflix, Stan, Paramount+, and free-to-air on-demand apps like ABC iView and SBS On Demand. According to Patrick Walker, Country Manager of Amazon Devices, adding more apps is about providing more options.

“Our customers love entertainment, and Binge and Kayo Sports have been at the top of their wishlist in terms of the content they want to watch at home on Fire TV,” Walker said. “Fire TV brings together the best of local and international entertainment to the big screen for Australian families, with a fast, intuitive and personalised smart TV experience. With Binge and Kayo Sports, the cinematic experience extends on our promise for endless entertainment.”

Amazon recently commemorated 200 million sales of Fire TV devices around the world, and expanded its Amazon-built TVs into more territories. Australia isn’t among them yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear otherwise.
