If you ever needed the smallest excuse to belt out your favourite songs, Apple has provided it in the form of Apple Music Sing, a new feature coming soon to the music streaming service.
Once the feature launches later this month, anyone with an active Apple Music subscription can tweak song vocals and real-time lyrics to croon alone or with others for an impromptu karaoke experience. As part of this, Apple Music Sing includes different lyric view options so you can easily perform lead, duet or backup vocals.
What does Apple Music Sing actually include?
With tens of millions of songs available through the Apple Music library, the new feature gives you customisable options, making it easier to sing along to music. It’s compatible with iPhone and iPad devices, alongside the latest Apple TV 4K.
Here are the full options available soon according to Apple’s announcement:
- Adjustable vocals: Users now have control over a song’s vocal levels. They can sing with the original artist vocals, take the lead or mix it up, on millions of songs in the Apple Music catalogue.
- Real-time lyrics: Users can sing along to their favourite songs with animated lyrics that dance to the rhythm of the vocals.
- Background vocals: Vocal lines sung simultaneously can animate independently from the main vocals to make it easier for users to follow.
- Duet view: Multiple vocalists show on opposite sides of the screen to make duets or multi-singer tracks easy to sing along to.
As well as the new options, there will also be more than 50 playlists launched with Apple Music Sing in mind. Songs in these playlists include notable duets, choruses and anthems perfect for sing-a-longs. From an Australian perspective, surely John Farnham’s “You’re the Voice” is a sure thing.
In the fine print, Apple specifies that the upcoming karaoke feature is not compatible with the cheaper Siri-specific Apple Music Voice Plan. Additionally, the company mentions “compatible iPhone and iPad models” as working with Apple Music Sing, without specifying the exact models. It’s safe to assume all devices running on iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 would work, meaning anything iPhone 8 or later, and a 5th-gen iPad or later should be fine.
Apple also recently revealed its most downloaded apps on the App Store alongside the 2022 App Store Award Winners for the best software available on the company’s devices.
