Another contender for Australia’s best phones is on the way, after Oppo launched its flagship Find X9 series in China overnight, ahead of a global release later this month.
Following last year’s Find X8 model, Oppo’s new premium phones come in two variants: a standard model, plus a ‘Pro’ version. Like the brand’s previous flagship handset, the new phones rely on MediaTek’s processors, using the Dimensity 9500 system-on-a-chip. Elsewhere, phones like the Xiaomi 17 have opted for Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, tipped to be the fastest Android phone processor.
At the top-end of the Oppo Find X9 range, the Pro sports a 200MP Hasselblad 3x telephoto lens. Last year’s X8 Pro wielded a 50MP telephoto lens, so this addition will likely give a bit more cropping flexibility. It also marks another major camera brand partnership with a Chinese phone company, following Xiaomi’s Leica-powered 15T range.
Physically, the Oppo Find X9 series looks similar to the X8 range. The Pro model retains the same-sized 6.78-inch display as its predecessor, with the biggest change reserved for the internals. Other than the new chipset, the Find X9 gets a beefy 7025mAh battery, while the Pro gets an even bigger 7500mAh battery capacity.
Oppo’s new phones ship with the company’s ColorOS 16 Android-based software, with several familiar-sounding updates. Described by Oppo as bringing “faster, more fluid interactions” to the UI and apps, like Apple’s Liquid Glass and Google’s Material 3 Expressive UI updates.
In between all the AI-powered features, Oppo’s cross-device connectivity will get a boost. Via the O+ Connect app, Oppo users can transfer files and cast content between Windows, Mac, and iOS devices.
More information about the global Oppo Find X9 launch will come from an event in Barcelona scheduled for the early hours of 29 October in most parts of Australia.
