The Game Awards 2022 nominees: God of War Ragnarok and Elden Ring dominate

The Game Awards 2022, the upcoming ceremony referred to by some as the Academy Awards of gaming, unveiled its full list of nominees overnight, dominated by recent release God of War Ragnarok, and Elden Ring.

Revealed in a livestream by host Geoff Keighley – who you may recall from “Not-E3” – The Game Awards 2022 features a range of separate categories encompassing different genres and game development disciplines. God of War Ragnarok, developed by US-based PlayStation developer Santa Monica Studio, leads the way with 10 nominations, including for the highly coveted Game of the Year category. Following closely behind is Elden Ring by Japanese team From Software, known for the punishing Dark Souls series, with seven nominations. Melbourne-made hit Cult of the Lamb is also up for Best Indie Game, carrying the torch for the Australian industry on the international stage.

Here are some of the major nominee announcements from overnight alongside a description of each included category. A full list of all 31 categories, including content creation and esports fields, is available via the official website.
