Australia’s most affordable EV likely won’t be this cheap again

One of Australia’s most popular and most affordable EVs is now even cheaper, with the MG4 Excite and ZS EV range thousands of dollars off in an end-of-year sale.

Until 31 December 2024, an MG4 Excite is as low as $32,990 drive-away, making it much cheaper than many EVs in Australia. It’s not quite as cheap as the $30,990 pricing in October, which resulted in MG Motor selling nearly 1,500 MG4 vehicles in the month, but it’s still a respectable price tag.

When the MG4 Excite first arrived in Australia last year, it was the country’s cheapest EV at $38,990 before on-road costs. That was before the BYD Dolphin came in ever-so-slightly cheaper.

Since then, the two electric hatchbacks have duked it out in a bid to be the most affordable. MG Motor revised its vehicle pricing structure earlier this year, changing its fleet to a flat drive-away cost. The move simplified the advertised cost and resulted in lower prices across many Australian states.

Also on sale is the longer-range MG4 Excite 64, priced at $34,990 drive-away. Compared to the 350km range of the MG4 Excite 51, the 64kWh model boasts a range as far as 450km on a single charge. MG Motor also advertises savings of up to $8,000 on the MG4 Essence 64 and 77 models, and the XPower across dealerships.

Alongside the current promotional pricing, the ZS EV electric SUV price has changed until the end of the year. Here’s the drive-away price list valid now until 31 December 2024:

  • MG4 Excite 51: $32,990
  • MG4 Excite 64: $34,990
  • ZS EV Essence: $36,990
  • ZS EV Long Range: $42,990

Commenting on the previous MG4 price drops, Giles Belcher, MG Motor Australia CCO, noted October’s “incredible response” with a suggestion that now’s the time to buy.

“These price offers finish at the end of the year and will never be repeated.”
