Do you watch The Game Awards and expect it to just be about the awards? Oh you sweet summer child, have I got news for you. Trailers for new and upcoming video games take up the bulk of the runtime, with announcements often overshadowing everything else about The Game Awards.
Instead of overloading you with every announcement at The Game Awards, here are the games you should be the most excited about. These are the games that stand out from the rest, from teams of all shapes and sizes.
Oh, and if you want to see The Game Awards winners, you can do that too.

The Witcher 4 gets its first trailer, stars Ciri
After Cyberpunk 2077, it’s time for CD Projekt Red to return to the series that put the Polish developer on the map. There’s no set date for The Witcher 4 yet but any return to this world is welcome.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is out in 2025
As if having Shadow of the Erdtree up for Game of the Year wasn’t enough, FromSoftware thought to announce yet another game. Elden Ring Nightrein is a standalone co-op game that is coming in 2025.
Virtua Fighter is back!
It’s been a while since Virtua Fighter has graced our screens, and now it’s coming back courtesy of Ryu Ga Gotoku, the studio behind the Yakuza and Like a Dragon series.
Project Century goes back in time for brutal brawler
Ryu Ga Gotoku had more than just Virtua Fighter to show off; dubbed “Project Century”, the studio’s other announcement looks closer to its Like a Dragon roots. Set in 1915 Japan, there’s plenty of brutal brawling to feast upon.
Split Fiction is the new game from It Takes Two dev
Josef Fares, director of Hazelight Studios and Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, is always a highlight at The Game Awards. Replete with his trademark colourful language, Fares revealed Split Fiction, another co-op adventure, with a cool mix of sci-fi and fantasy action.
And it’s not far away! Split Fiction launches on 6 March 2025.
Stage Fright is Overcooked studio’s new co-op game
Seemingly designed to bring people together more than the friendship-testing pressure cooker environment of Overcooked, Stage Fright looks to be a charming magical experience.
Shadow of the Colossus team’s next game shown
Fumito Ueda’s status as helming Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian is envied by game developers worldwide. Now, Ueda’s back with a new untitled game. It doesn’t matter what it’s called, it’ll be worth playing regardless.
Turok Origins is a blast from the past
Turok is a name I haven’t heard in a while. Turok: Origins brings back the dinosaur-hunting mayhem in co-op form. It’s also now in third-person perspective, a change from the original’s first-person stylings.
Slay the Spire 2 will take up all your spare time
On no, my spare time is in grave danger. Slay the Spire 2 sees a return to the compelling roguelike deckbuilder gameplay that is still incredible to this day. Expect to see the sequel out in 2025.
Dave the Diver: In the Jungle has more chef action
Dave the Diver was one of 2023’s gaming highlights, bringing a moreish blend of deepsea exploration and sushi restaurant sim gameplay.
Hell yeah, I’m keen for more Dave.
Laura Bailey and Aaron Paul team up on Dispatch
A bit of funny to-and-fro between actors Laura Bailey and Aaron Paul led the way for Dispatch, a comedic choice-based game with a different slant on the superhero genre.
Okami sequel is on the way
Only the slightest of teases, but it’s cool to know that Okami is getting a sequel. The original is one of the most beautiful games ever made; only time will tell how its successor holds up.
Naughty Dog’s new game is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet
Presented as The Game Awards’ “one last thing”, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is a big sci-fi epic from Naughty Dog. Y’know, the folks behind Uncharted, Crash Bandicoot, and The Last of Us. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are also composing the soundtrack, which is extremely cool.
