Astro Bot has taken out Game of the Year, alongside a heap of other awards, at The Game Awards 2024.
Winning the top gong brought Astro Bot‘s win tally to four on the night, also claiming the Best Action/Adventure, Best Game Direction, and Best Family prizes. Made by Team Asobi in Japan, Astro Bot launched to critical acclaim for its vibrant 3D platforming that rekindled a bygone era of gaming.
In my Astro Bot review, I praised it for showing that “high-quality 3D platforming is well and truly alive.”
“It’s bright, colourful and brings a smile to your face at every turn. A celebration of both 3D platformers and PlayStation’s storied history, Astro Bot drinks from the well of nostalgia while adding a fresh new twist to everything it does.”
It has since received multiple post-game updates, adding more levels to its already fulfilling package. One extra level came just overnight, in the form of a joyful festive-themed winter wonderland.
Fellow Game of the Year nominees Metaphor: ReFantazio and Balatro also won multiple awards on the night. Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees for another great year of video games.
