Knott’s Berry Farm visitors hungry for a boysenberry-topped funnel cake or shopping for a Camp Snoopy T-shirt will need to use their credit card or mobile device for the purchases because the Buena Park theme park will no longer take cash.
Knott’s will make the shift to only cashless payments on Monday, Nov. 15.
Knott’s is moving to cashless payments via credit card, debit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay at all in-park locations to make transactions faster, safer and more secure.
The move makes sense from both a customer service and operations standpoint. Cashless payments are faster for customers who spend less time waiting for employees to make change at checkout stations. The park also doesn’t have to spend time and labor counting cash or pay for armored cars to haul all that money back and forth to the bank.
The lone exception to the cashless payment rule inside Knott’s: Craft booths run by vendors that sell souvenirs in Calico Ghost Town.
Cash payments will still be accepted at this time just outside the theme park gates at parking booths, the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel and the California Marketplace outdoor shopping mall.
Visitors who show up with cash and those who don’t have a credit card can transfer money to prepaid cards at Cash-to-Card kiosks at the Knott’s front gate, Western rear entrance, Ghost Town general store, Fiesta Village arcade, Xcelerator gift shop and Grizzly Creek Lodge.
The prepaid cards can be loaded with up to $500 and can be used anywhere Visa or Mastercard are accepted — not only at Knott’s. There are no fees for the cash conversion or to use the prepaid card.
Other Cedar Fair locations in the amusement park chain have already moved to cashless-only payments. Carowinds in North Carolina and Kings Island in Ohio made the switch during the past summer while Ohio’s Cedar Point will go cashless starting with the 2022 season, according to Screamscape.
While there is no cost to load the prepaid cards, there is a $3.95 per month fee on remaining balances, according to the CP Food Blog.
