One killed in early-morning I-880 crash near Hayward

One person died early Sunday morning in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 880 near Hayward, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The person, whose name was not released, was killed shortly before 3 a.m., when four vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of I-880, just north of Whipple Road, said James Evans, officer with the California Highway Patrol. The person was pronounced dead on scene.

At least one other motorist suffered minor injuries, Evans said. Further details on the crash were not available early Sunday morning.
