Ravens fullback Patrick Ricard and cornerbacks Tavon Young and Chris Westry returned to practice Friday, raising hopes that they could be available for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
The availability of defensive lineman Calais Campbell (concussion) for the Ravens’ “Sunday Night Football” matchup remains uncertain after he missed his third straight practice. All NFL players who have been concussed or shown signs of a concussion must follow a five-step process before being cleared to fully practice or play in an NFL game, meaning Campbell could be activated Sunday despite not practicing.
Coach John Harbaugh said after practice Friday that Campbell’s progress this week has been “encouraging,” but he stopped short of saying he would play Sunday.
“He’s been playing all year, so he probably could use the rest anyway,” Harbaugh said. “He knows what we’re doing, and technique’s not going to be a problem. … Of course you have to go through the process, and you never can predict that exactly, but I think it’s been very encouraging that way.”
Ricard (hip/foot) and Young (foot/knee) missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. Westry returned from a thigh injury after two days out, though he left the field not long into Friday’s workout.
Tight end Nick Boyle, offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi (thigh), defensive tackle Brandon Williams (shoulder) and cornerback Jimmy Smith (neck) were all absent. Rookie defensive back Ar’Darius Washington suffered a season-ending foot injury Wednesday, Harbaugh said. Wide receiver Miles Boykin, sidelined this week by a finger injury, was working out but not practicing Friday.
An injury report for Sunday’s game will be released later Friday.
