Apple just launched an app for classical music lovers

Apple has announced the launch of a new standalone app called Apple Music Classical, designed exclusively for classical music lovers. The new app provides a seamless and optimised search experience, allowing users to find any recording in the world’s largest classical music catalogue with ease. Listeners can enjoy the highest audio quality available, with thousands of recordings in immersive spatial audio.

The app will offer a host of features, including hundreds of curated playlists, thousands of exclusive albums, insightful composer biographies, deep-dive guides for many key works, and intuitive browsing features. Apple Music Classical aims to be the ultimate classical experience for music aficionados worldwide.

The app will be available to Apple Music subscribers at no additional cost, and it can be pre-ordered now on the App Store. The app will automatically download at launch to enable immediate listening for users who have Auto Update turned on in their settings. The launch is expected on March 28, 2023.

Apple Music Classical will offer users access to the world’s largest classical music catalogue, featuring over 5 million tracks and works ranging from new releases to celebrated masterpieces. The app also provides the highest audio quality, up to 192 kHz/24 bit Hi-Res Lossless, and thousands of recordings in immersive spatial audio.

The metadata provided by the app is complete and accurate, ensuring users know exactly what work and which artist is playing. Additionally, the app will feature thousands of editorial notes, including composer biographies and descriptions of key works, providing a comprehensive learning experience for those interested in classical music.

Apple has partnered with some of the most prolific classical music artists and institutions worldwide to offer new and unique content and recordings exclusive to Apple Music Classical listeners. The app’s official Twitter account, @appleclassical, will provide news and updates.

Users will also enjoy brand new exclusive artwork, including a series of unique, high-resolution digital portraits for many of the world’s greatest composers. Each image blends historical research with colour palettes and artistic references from the relevant classical period, offering an astonishing attention to detail and bringing listeners face to face with leading classical figures like never before.

Apple Music Classical will be available worldwide, except for China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, with those regions to follow. It is available for all iPhone models running iOS 15.4 or later and will soon be available for Android. Users must have an internet connection to listen to music on Apple Music Classical.
