Play on the big screen with the BenQ X3000i 4K gaming projector

Due to space constraints, having a big TV to play games on may not be possible for everyone. One worthwhile option is to consider a specialised gaming projector capable of producing a large image with a fast refresh rate. Launched last year, we’re currently checking out the BenQ X3000i which offers just that, packed with plenty of features to bring your favourite games to the big screen.

A 4K, 3000-lumen projector, the BenQ X3000i does plenty to ensure you get a strong gaming experience. For starters, you can easily get an image well over 100 inches in size. At a retail price of $3,299 (or sub-$3,000 from some Amazon sellers), you won’t find a similarly-sized TV for anywhere near as cheap. Plus, it houses two 5W stereo speakers, so you don’t need to bring extra audio equipment wherever you set up.

It’s built to last, too. The BenQ X3000i uses a 4LED light source rated to give you over 30,000 hours of use when in Eco mode. That’s a far cry from older projectors that required expensive lamp replacements after less use.

Big-screen gaming BenQ X3000i features

Along with 4K resolution ideal for viewing movies and TV shows, the projector also supports HDR content. This means you’ll see plenty of detail in scenes with light and dark elements, and get the most out of your watch party.

The BenQ X3000i also contains a decent amount of connection options so you can swap between sources without changing plugs all the time. In addition to USB-A connectivity and a 3.5mm audio out jack, there are three HDMI 2.0b ports. While this means 4K is limited to 60Hz, you can crank the refresh rate up to a whopping 240Hz when the resolution’s set to 1080p. That’s ideal for connecting a gaming PC and getting smooth action on a massive screen. You can also plug in a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X console and play games at 120Hz, which would be great for a local multiplayer session.

Latency and input lag can sometimes be a pitfall of gaming on projectors, but the X3000i reduces this to a fast 4.2 milliseconds. Although it’s not quite the sub-1ms response time of premium monitors, it’s right up there with the fastest TVs.

We’re putting BenQ’s gaming projector through its paces this week ready for a full review soon. Unlike many other rectangle-shaped projectors, this one is more cube-like, which makes it stand out from the crowd. As for how it performs? Stay tuned for the results. In the meantime, check out BenQ’s website for the full specifications.
