Help, Pokemon TCG Pocket already has its hooks in me

Get ready to lose all of your spare time because Pokemon TCG Pocket has just gone live on the App Store and Google Play.

As covered by the Nintendo experts over at Vooks, the eagerly awaited mobile game is out now after a pre-registration period a couple of months ago. The latest digital version of the popular trading card game, Pokemon TCG Pocket

According to the official press release, the game “offers a fresh take on card collection, inviting fans to experience the thrill of opening booster packs, discovering cards with unique visual effects and engaging in quick battles”.

Having recently opened several packs of cards with a friend, I could see myself getting sucked into the vortex of collecting my beloved monsters in digital card form.

Launching with a set of cards based on the original Kanto Pokemon, you can open two booster packs every day for free. Like many mobile games, there’s a range of in-app purchases on offer, including a monthly “Premium Pass” that costs $14.99 in Australia. It lets you open an extra pack every day and grants access to additional in-game missions.

I like what I’ve played so far; it’s slick, the art looks great, and the haptic feedback is a nice touch. It also runs a lot better than the previous Pokemon TCG app I tried. Probably helping matters is the fact I pulled some sweet cards in my first packs.

Even with trading cards as popular as they are, I don’t expect Pokemon TCG Pocket to be quite the phenomenon that Pokemon Go was back in the day. Still, I think it’ll be a pleasant time-filler for those of us keen to catch ’em all.
