Samsung has launched the Galaxy Fit 3 in Australia, a cheaper fitness wearable alternative to a smartwatch.
Priced at $149, the Galaxy Fit 3 serves as an entry point for Samsung’s fitness-tracking range. Meanwhile, the brand’s smartwatches start at $399 for the FE model and $549 for the Watch 7 range.
Capable of tracking more than 100 different workout types, the Fit 3 monitors heart rate, blood oxygen, and sleep quality. You don’t need to worry about getting the device wet, thanks to its IP68 dust and water-resistance rating.
Compared to the previous generation, the new Fit comes with a larger 1.6-inch display, advertised as being 45% wider. It looks like a slightly rectangular version of an Apple Watch, contrasting the more traditional circular design of Samsung’s Galaxy Watch range.
One of the main reasons the Fit 3 is so much cheaper than other wearables is its lack of built-in GPS. To use GPS functionality, like when going on a run, you need to pair it with a Galaxy phone via Bluetooth.
It doesn’t have as much tech as the Watch wearables, like NFC for contactless payments, or ECG measurements. That certainly helps keep costs down, not to mention a long-lasting battery life. Samsung claims the Galaxy Fit 3 lasts up to 13 days on a single charge – not too shabby at all.
It’s also incredibly light compared to other wearables. At less than 20 grams, it’s one of the most slender fitness trackers going around. Not as light as the upcoming Galaxy Ring, mind you, but the Fit 3 costs a fair chunk less.
Out now in Australia, the Samsung Galaxy Fit 3 is available from retailers including JB Hi-Fi.
