Motorola has launched the Moto Buds in Australia, its cheapest pair of active noise cancelling earbuds.
Priced at a reasonable and very specific $148, the Moto Buds are roughly $100 cheaper than the Buds+ launched alongside the Edge 50 Pro handset earlier this year. It’s a compelling price point to offer ANC, including transparency and adaptive modes.
On the inside, the Moto Buds house 12.4mm audio drivers, supporting Hi-Res audio with compatible phones. These drivers are one of the main differences between this model and the pricier “plus” version. The latter employs dual dynamic drivers versus the single dynamic drivers found here. It seems like a reasonable compromise, meaning you get more audio depth by paying more.
Advertised as lasting up to nine hours with ANC off, the buds carry a claim of up to 42 hours of playtime when paired with the included charging case. You can use the same USB-C cable you use to charge your phone too; 10 minutes gets you as much as two hours of non-ANC playback.
Although there’s no official IP rating, Motorola describes the Moto Buds as “water-repellent”. That means splashes and light rain should be fine but not dunking the buds underwater. Motorola’s in-ear wireless headphones also include a triple microphone array for chatting over the phone.
Starting today, you can grab the new Moto Buds from Harvey Norman. They come in two colours: a subtle Starlight Blue and the brighter Coral Peach finish.
Most of the best ANC earbuds cost upwards of $300, like the Apple AirPods Pro or Samsung’s Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. Even Apple’s more affordable AirPods 4 headphones are double the price of the Moto Buds. At this price point, Motorola’s latest entry could be a decent sub-$200 option.
