LG WebOS 6.0 and its new Magic Remote (on its 2021 TV range) streamlines the content discovery experience. Simply put – it simply easier and more logical to use.
The new Home screen provides faster access to the most used apps. It streamlines content discovery with recommendations based on the user’s preferences and viewing history. All information is displayed on a full screen to show preferred content and related information at a glance.
The new LG Magic Remote has simpler controls. It has voice recognition with the multi-AI offerings of LG ThinQ, Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Simple to navigate, easy to hold and use. It has hotkeys for accessing popular content providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+.
Magic Tap is a one-touch NFC function to connect an NFC-enabled smartphone to the remote. Viewers can share content from their phones to the TV or vice versa.
AI technology enables TV voice controls and Magic Remote users to speak up to get the information they need.
Magic Explorer delivers informative content related to what is showing on the screen. Viewers can learn more about the actors, locations and other items of interest in the movies and shows they are watching.
Next Picks feature analyses viewers’ preferences to discover more content suited to their tastes. It recommends two live programs from broadcast or set-top box offerings as well as one VOD title or app based on viewers’ liking. This saves viewers the time and hassle of finding what to watch next.
Park Hyoung-sei, president of LG Home Entertainment, said about LG WEBOS 6.0
“The latest version of our user-friendly open TV platform webOS 6.0 represents the most significant update since we first introduced webOS in 2014. LG is demonstrating its commitment of offering services, products and technologies that respond to the needs and wants of our valued customers.”
GadgetGuy’s take – why is LG WEBOS 6.0 important
There is an old saying, “Never let a programmer design a user interface.” Most smart TV user interfaces show off more of ‘what it can do’ (if you are a rocket scientist) rather than ‘just do it’. Sometimes it can take several confusing steps to find content or switch inputs.
No longer do we use a ‘TV Times’ to find and view free-to-air TV. And streaming services catalogues are now so huge that you don’t invariably find exactly what you want. Then there is Freeview Plus and dozens of replay-on-demand channels.
The LG WEBOS 6.0 SMART TV platform is a new design for the way viewers now consume this huge variety of content. And importantly, it is a logical platform for the smart home.
We have been big fans of LG WEBOS since it first introduced its pink on-screen magic cursor. It may not be the sole reason to buy an LG TV, but you definitely appreciate it afterwards. And below is an older version of WEBOS – we think the new version looks great.
