Samsung 2021 TV range includes Neo QLED, Micro-LED and Lifestyle models

The Samsung 2021 TV range includes Samsung’s new Neo QLED and a 110” Micro-LED. We expect to see both technologies in Australia.

Samsung 2021 TV range – What is Neo QLED?

It is primarily a new back lighting technology to replace fully array local dimming LEDs (FALD) and Edge-Lit for premium Samsung QLED flagship 8K (QN900A) and 4K (QN90A) TVs. Neo is essentially a MiniLED (1/40 the size of a standard LED and bigger than a micro-LED) that blankets the back of the screen with even light. It allows for thinner panels and should be far brighter than current back lights technology.

Then Samsung’s Neo Quantum processor takes over and manages the backlight with its Quantum Matrix Technology. We don’t have any meaningful specifications yet – Samsung simply says Neo QLED increases the luminance scale to 12-bit with 4096 steps. And importantly its new processor has even better Multi-Intelligence AI upscaling to both 4K and 8K.

Initial reports are that the 8K is a stunner with a bezel-less Infinity screen, integrated Q-Symphony speakers (work in tandem with the Samsung Q-Symphony soundbars), Object Tracking Sound Pro (OTS) and a type of external ‘Slim One-connect’ box for the electronics. These naturally include HDMI 2.1, eARC and an HDR10+ Adaptive feature.

We are not sure about the rest of the 2021 range yet except that it includes

110” Micro-LED

As the name micro indicates these are micro-metre sized self-emissive LEDs, and the 110” has 24,000,000 of them. 4K requires 8 million pixels so you can assume these are separate Red, Green and Blue micro-LEDs.
