The new VIDAA U5 TV operating system will be on most of the Hisense 2021 TV range offering faster performance and more features than ever.
VIDAA U5 is important to Hisense. It allows the TV designer and manufacturer to maximise TV performance and offer more local customisation than a generic off-the-shelf TV OS.
For example, it means over-the-air TV feature and firmware updates can focus right down to individual models instead of a one-size-fits-all approach. It enables far faster load (1.7 seconds) and 20% faster app launch times (compared to VIDAA U4).
It also means local apps like Kayo are there. Kayo has the biggest line-up of Australian and international live and replay sports. You can also access historic replays – keep up with every try, goal and big hit over the years.
Andre Iannuzzi, Head of Marketing at Hisense Australia said
“Australians use of smart devices has accelerated this year. Why? Connectivity and content have become a key part of our lives as we spent more time at home with family, enjoying the entertainment and light relief offered by our Smart TVs. VIDAA U5 offers advanced voice control functionality, new apps, and new gateways to hours of new content.”
VIDAA U5 features
SmartRemote for smartphones
Most of the VIDAA U 5 features will be accessible via the TV remote and VIDAA SmartRemote Mobile App for Android and iOS. It will allow smartphone TV control – perfect for households where remotes may occasionally be lost.
Now with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa
Australians love Google Assistant, so VIDAA U5 now supports both it and Alexa (not at the same time). Some 2021 TVs will have far-field mics for full hands-free voice assistance (Alexa), and others will use the mic button on the remote or a separate voice control speaker. And as usual, all will integrate to the voice assistant domain to act as home hubs for smart device control.
At the moment all voice assistants have a limited repertoire of commands. VIDAA U5 will add more over time. At present, you can turn on/off the TV, change volume up/down, change channels and search electronic program guides for free-to-air TV, Freeview, and most streaming services.
Chris Mayer Product Specialist and National Retail Training Manager at Hisense Australia said
“This update means that you can use your TV as your main smart home hub. This means you can use it to turn your smart lights on, check your schedule for the week and ask for the latest news updates with an on-screen response, without needing a separate smart device. If you don’t want to use voice assistants you can turn them off too!”
