CES 2023 AMD: powerful new Ryzen 7000 series CPUs incoming

Another year, another round of beefy processors from AMD. As part of the CES 2023 AMD announcements, the prominent chip maker revealed its latest range of 7000 series CPUs spanning desktop and laptop devices. The reveals came alongside a keynote presentation at the annual tech trade show.

CES 2023 AMD: More powerful Ryzen 7000 CPUs

Headlining the upcoming AMD Ryzen 7000 range are multiple new desktop CPUs that utilise the AMD Socket AM5 platform. This platform includes increased PCIe 5 lanes, enabling further GPU and storage options for pushing your rig to the max.

Three new Ryzen X3D processors

Aimed at high-end gaming and content creation, the new X3D processors, led by the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, introduce AMD 3D V-Cache tech. Essentially, this means there’s the capacity to stack additional cache memory onto the processor when needed.

AMD testing suggests these chips wield up to 14% faster performance than the previous generation. No pricing details just yet, but with a February launch window slated, expect to see more details soon.

Model Cores/Threads Boost/ Base Frequency Total Cache TDP
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D 16C/32T Up to 5.7 GHz / 4.2 GHz 144MB 120W
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D 12C/24T Up to 5.6 GHz / 4.4 GHz 140MB 120W
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8C/16T Up to 5.0 GHz / TBD 104MB 120W

Updated Ryzen 9, 7, and 5 models

Built using the Zen 4 architecture, these chips are said to be optimised for efficiency and performance, featuring a power consumption of 65W TDP. AMD also mentions you can get an instant overclocking boost of up to 39% with the Ryzen 9 7900 CPU by using Precision Boost Overdrive and water cooling.

We’ve only got US pricing so far, but these chips are due out starting 10 January.

Model Cores / Threads Boost / Base Frequency Total Cache TDP Cooler Price (USD)
AMD Ryzen 9 7900 12C/24T Up to 5.4 GHz / 3.7 GHz 76MB 65W Wraith Prism $429
AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8C/16T Up to 5.3 GHz / 3.8 GHz 40MB 65W Wraith Prism $329
AMD Ryzen 5 7600 6C/12T Up to 5.1 GHz / 3.8 GHz 38MB 65W Wraith Stealth $229

Gaming laptops to benefit from Ryzen 7045HX series mobile CPUs

Gaming laptops from Alienware, Asus, Lenovo, and MSI are set to feature Ryzen 7045HX mobile CPUs starting in February. Aimed at laptop gamers and content creators, these chips house up to 16 cores capable of processing 32 concurrent threads, contributing to a fair chunk of power.

Model Cores/Threads Boost / Base Frequency Total Cache TDP
AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX 16C/32T Up to 5.4 GHz / 2.5 GHz 80MB 55-75W+
AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX 12C/24T Up to 5.2 GHz / 3.0 GHz 76MB 45-75W+
AMD Ryzen 7 7745HX 8C/16T Up to 5.1 GHz / 3.6 GHz 40MB 45-75W+
AMD Ryzen 5 7645HX 6C/12T Up to 5.0 GHz / 4.0 GHz 38MB 45-75W+

Additional CES 2023 AMD Ryzen CPU announcements

In addition to the high-end Ryzen 7045HX mobile processors, the company also unveiled the Ryzen 7040, 7035, and 7030 series of mobile CPUs set to feature across various laptop manufacturers’ devices over the next few months.
