Everything we learned from Hisense at CES 2023

Even after CES 2023, we’re still unpacking plenty of information from one of the world’s biggest tech trade shows. Hisense had a major presence at the event, showing off its latest home entertainment and smart home technology, which we anticipate will feature heavily across Australian living rooms throughout the year.

From Mini-LED to short throw projectors, and greater smart home connectivity, here’s everything we learned from Hisense at CES 2023 by touring their booth.

Mini-LED technology is here to stay

Every Hisense ULED TV in 2023 will use Mini-LED backlighting, which is an exciting prospect on multiple fronts. Depending on the specific model, TVs equipped with Mini-LEDs use up to thousands of small backlights to produce a bright, high-quality and high-contrast image.

In order to get the best quality results, some TV technology requires you to have full control over a room’s lighting. Not Mini-LED. Because it’s capable of producing bright pictures, you don’t need to worry about shutting every door, curtain and blind just so you can watch TV. In fact, Hisense’s 2023 flagship TV, the 85-inch Mini-LED X, houses 20,000 backlights that generate over 2,500 nits of brightness, making it a strong candidate for any Australian living room.

Short-throw projectors make big screens affordable

Having a big screen is great, although it can be expensive. Hisense has an alternative for those who want a massive picture at a fraction of the cost: Laser TV and Laser Cinema.

At CES 2023, the company revealed it’s expanding its short-throw projector lineup with more options, including the TriChroma PX1H, which has triple the lasers for increased image quality. Along with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos certification, the Laser TV and Laser Cinema projectors produce a massive colour range, more than is actually perceptible to the human eye.

An added bonus is that these projectors take up comparatively little space to traditional TVs. Also, while some Laser TV models come with a special screen you can attach to a wall and project onto, you’ll still get great image quality by simply using a blank wall. This makes for a great option when space is at a premium, or you don’t want the hassle of a large device.

Smart home connectivity is getting easier

One of the big areas Hisense focused on at CES 2023 was smart home connectivity. The company announced greater functionality for ConnectLife, its app and smart home ecosystem, which will work between air conditioners, fridges, dishwashers, and washing machines.

This means you can control and monitor smart appliances from anywhere using ConnectLife. One of the big features touted here is Holiday Mode, which will reduce fridge power consumption while you’re away and don’t have perishables stored inside.

Taking things a step further, you’ll soon be able to access other appliances on Hisense TVs running on the VIDAA operating system. Need to adjust the air conditioning by a degree or two while watching TV? No problem, just pick up the TV remote or use a voice-activated smart speaker to handle the task.
