Hot off the heels of a busy CES 2023 for Samsung which focused primarily on its home entertainment and smart appliances, the company is hosting a Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event on 2 February. Hosted in San Fransisco, it will be the first in-person Unpacked showcase in three years.
During this event, we’re expecting to hear about the latest Samsung Galaxy S devices, with major camera improvements touted as a possibility by multiple publications. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming event.
Where can I watch the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event?
You can watch the upcoming event in multiple places, including on Samsung’s official website, the company’s newsroom site, or YouTube. In Australia, it airs at a slightly bleary-eyed time of 5 am AEDT on 2 February, which equates to 10 am PST on 1 February in the US.
We’ll also have coverage of the announcements, so be sure to check back here for more information about what Samsung shows off.
What’s getting announced?
While the last Unpacked event in August 2022 focused on the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Fold4 phones, alongside the Buds2 Pro and Watch5 range, this showcase revolves around Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S devices. Major pundits anticipate a Samsung Galaxy S23 announcement at the Samsung Unpacked 2023 event. TechCrunch‘s reporting indicates that high-resolution camera sensors will be a big selling point of the S23 devices.
This is based on a couple of things: firstly, teasers posted to Weibo accompanied by the tagline “Wow-worthy resolution is coming” and “Stunning night photos are coming soon”. These teasers have since been posted across local social media platforms Another critical piece of information is that Samsung announced its 200-megapixel sensor technology last year, which could potentially feature in the Galaxy S23. From a more technical side of things, it’s expected the S23 will house the latest processor from Qualcomm: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Samsung usually launches multiple versions of its Galaxy S devices, so expect to see multiple models revealed in February. At the corresponding event last year, we saw the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra, in addition to several Galaxy Tab devices. Tom’s Guide believes we’ll see the Galaxy S23 and S23 Ultra, alongside the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra laptop the brand sells overseas.
To sweeten the deal if you’re looking to upgrade to anything that gets shown off, you can register your details with Samsung to receive Samsung Care+, the brand’s premium device swap program, which is valued at up to $249.
We’ll have more details on the latest Galaxy S series once 2 February rolls around. Following that, we’ll go hands-on with what we can and help you choose the best device for your needs.
