Rampant speculation about the next iPhone is set to end in just a couple of weeks, with Apple locking in its flagship September launch event.
Apple’s event will be an early one for Australians, scheduled for 3:00 AM AEST on 10 September. It’s widely expected to announce the company’s first foldable iPhone, which reportedly combines iPad-like multitasking with the iOS ecosystem. All evidence so far points to a similar passport-like form factor to Samsung’s recent Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Advertised with the tagline “surprise and shine”, Apple’s event invitation features a translucent company logo with a lens flare in the middle. Surrounding it is what appears to be the faint outline of a camera lens.
Previous reports claimed that this September will mark a departure from Apple’s usual launch schedule. Usually, the tech giant announces all of its core iPhones at the same event. However, there’s speculation that the only iPhones to feature at this event will be the foldable and the latest 18 Pro range, pushing the remaining handsets to early next year.
It’ll also be the first major Apple event under incoming CEO John Ternus’ watch, with Tim Cook handing over the keys on 1 September. All eyes will be on Ternus, who comes from a hardware engineering background, and his approach to the latest product launch.
In addition to the reported iPhones, Apple will also likely announce the Apple Watch Series 12 range. Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman also reported on Apple’s plans to launch the AirPods 5, potentially as part of the September event.
More than anything, price will be a major talking point. In recent months, Cook alluded to potential price increases, while a separate analysis shared how much more iPhone components cost, stemming from the ongoing global memory shortage.
