SEATTLE — Fred Warner indeed will miss a game for the first time in his 49ers’ career, and, actually, the first time since his 2014 freshman season at BYU.
Warner’s hamstring strain last Sunday had been listed as doubtful for today’s game at Seattle. The 49ers’ linebacker corps already had ruled out Dre Greenlaw (groin) and Marcell Harris (concussion).
Warner played in all the 49ers’ previous 62 games, including playoffs, since arriving as a 2018 third-round draft pick. He leads the 49ers this year with 92 tackles and two fumble recoveries.
Warner went through a light pregame workout and is expected to return next Sunday — along with wide receiver Deebo Samuel — when the 49ers visit a Bengals team that’s seen quarterback Joe Burrow and running back Joe Mixon battle through injuries today against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Azeez Al-Shaair and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles are the projected starters, and the reserves include Tyrell Adams and Justin March from the practice squad. Rookie safety Talanoa Hufanga also figures to factor into that mix, though Jimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt are the projected starting safeties, still.
Look for Al-Shaair to often shadow and spy Russell Wilson, who might be most susceptible to pressure up the middle on blitzes.
WIDE RECEIVER OPTIONS
With Deebo Samuel (groin) out for the first time this season, the 49ers will suit up these wide receivers: Brandon Aiyuk, Trent Sherfield, Jauan Jennings, Travis Benjamin and River Cracraft, who got activated Saturday from the practice squad.
The only other players out for the 49ers are offensive lineman Colton McKivitz and defensive tackle Maurice Hurst, who had a setback last week in his comeback from a calf injury.
AP ALL-DAY?
The Seahawks signed 14-year veteran Adrian Peterson last week and activated him off their practice squad for today’s game. The NFL’s 2012 MVP is a seven-time Pro Bowler who played three games last month for the Tennessee Titans before getting cut. Peterson will wear No. 21.
Seahawks starter Chris Carson sustained a season-ending neck injury in Seattle’s October win at the 49ers, and three other running backs — Rashaad Penny, Alex Collins and Travis Homer—entered Sunday as questionable.
Collins is inactive, as are starting left guard Damien Lewis, defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche, cornerback Nigel Warrior, quarterback Jacob Eason and guard Phil Haynes.
