LG’s Premium Soundbar ‘upfires’ away

The popularity of the soundbar continues to rise, and the LG S95QR Premium Soundbar will spearhead the company’s 2022 home audio solutions lineup. The flagship speaker matches 810W power output with a long list of features that, combined with premium content, promises impressive sound for home cinema, music and gaming enthusiasts.

As a 9.1.5 channel unit, the S95QR has five upfiring channels – three on the sounbar itself and two on the separate rear speakers. With this many upfiring speakers, the S95QR should produce a larger and more encompassing soundstage. That’s helped out with support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. There’s also IMAX Enhanced audio, which creates three-dimensional sound, though this does only work with IMAX compatible content.

Compared to LG’s similar models from last year, the S95QR Premium Soundbar benefits from new speaker drivers, speaker chambers and subwoofer, all of which combine to boost performance. The wireless rear speakers now have a combined six channels: four front-firing, and two up-firing.

Wireless WOWCAST

Speaking of wireless, LG says it has improved the receiver in the soundbar so you’ll have more flexibility when positioning the subwoofer, and the stable connection should minimise drops or lags in audio.

LG now also offers a WOWCAST Wi-Fi dongle (optional) to enable streaming of lossless multi-channel audio, so there’s no drop in sound quality when you go wireless (and no unsightly cables). The inclusion of Meridian Audio Horizon tech for Music Mode allows it to upmix two-channel audio to 7.1 channels for what LG calls “realistic acoustic surround sound”. And for gamers, VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) features can help ensure that audio plays in sync with the onscreen action.

Naturally, the S95QR works with the major voice assistants so you can operate it, and control streaming music, without a remote. Further smarts in the soundbar include advanced AI, which handles everything from room configuation to on-the-fly audio tweaking to make content clear and lifelike.

Australian pricing and availability for the LG S96QR soundbar is to be confirmed.
