GAME ESSENTIALS: 49ers (6-5) vs. Seahawks (3-8) at Lumen Field, at 2:25 p.m. (PT). TV: CBS (Ch. 5), Announcers: Kevin Harlan (play-by-play), Trent Green (color commentary), Melanie Collins (sideline reporting).
ODDS: 49ers -3. OVER/UNDER: 45.5.
SERIES: 49ers lead 29-17. LAST MEETING: Seahawks beat 49ers 28-21 in Week 4.
The 49ers-Seahawks rivalry has often determined the winner of the NFC West over the last decade.
In 2021, it’s unlikely to do so again as the Seahawks have lost six of their seven games since beating the 49ers on Oct. 3. While the 49ers are on a three-game win streak, they sit third inn the division behind the Rams and Cardinals.
A finger injury sidelined Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson for several games, and even after his return, he’s looked unlike himself in three losses.
The Niners are dealing with injury issues themselves, as do-it-all receiver/running back Deebo Samuel is out with a groin injury and All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner likely to join him on the bench with a hamstring issue.
In the prior meeting, Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a calf injury and rookie Trey Lance got his first extended NFL run. He looked shaky at times in the 28-21 loss, then started the next week vs. Arizona in another defeat, picking up a knee injury. He’s taken only five snaps in six games since.
Meanwhile, Garoppolo is playing like the 2019 version of himself over San Francisco’s three-game winning streak: Fairly efficient passing to supplement a bulldozing run game.
With Samuel out, that run game will rely heavily on rookie Elijah Mitchell, who impressed last week in his return from finger surgery.
Follow along with our reporters Cam Inman and Jerry McDonald, columnist Dieter Kurtenbach and other analysts providing their thoughts about the game.
