Alienware’s out-of-this world Area-51 range has arrived in Australia, localising Aurora Borealis entirely within your gaming laptop.
First announced at CES 2025 in January, Alienware teased some eye-watering specs, namely the graphical power on show. Australia gets the Nvidia RTX 5080 model first, which will be followed by RTX 5090 and RTX 5070 configurations at a later date.
That level of oomph doesn’t come cheap. A quick look at the local online listing shows the 16-inch Area-51 RTX 5080 laptop for $6,098.40. This specific model includes 32GB of DDR5 RAM, a 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD, and the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX chipset.
Its 2560 x 1600 display supports a smooth 240Hz refresh rate, while supporting the full DCI-P3 colour range. Alienware doesn’t mention the display type in its spec sheet, but based on the 500 nits brightness, it’s most likely LCD.
There’s also an 18-inch Alienware Area-51 laptop priced at $7,198.40 for the RTX 5080 version. Both laptops can also be specced-up to include 64GB of RAM and as much as 4TB of SSD storage. Doing so, however, jacks the price up to nearly $10,000, pricing it well into hardcore territory.
In the name of extreme flourishes, Alienware’s high-end gaming laptops also have a light-up trackpad. On the more practical side, there’s a full range of I/O ports, most of which sit at the rear, including various USB-A 3.2, Thunderbolt 5, and HDMI 2.1 slots.
Without a doubt, it’s as stylish as laptops come. The Liquid Teal finish is slick without being overbearing, and the curved edges are a refreshing departure from most laptops’ sharp angles.
You’d certainly want the laptop to look good and run well at that price. I suppose that’s the price you pay for the latest tech with all the bells and whistles.
