Deals on NBN internet are pretty frequent, but it’s not every day you see a telco offer a permanent discount. In a rare move, SpinTel is doing just that, selling its fastest NBN plans accompanied by a lifetime discount.
Applicable to new customers looking at the telco’s 250 and 1000 plans, the lifetime discount bucks the industry trend of fixed-term deals. Among the cheapest NBN plans, most providers offer a six-month introductory discount to encourage new sign-ups, before reverting to full price. Occasionally, you might see a 12-month discount, tempting a longer-term commitment.
Exclusively via the widget below, SpinTel currently lists its NBN 250 plan for $80 per month. That’s a $9.95 monthly discount for the entire time you stay connected. Similarly, the telco’s NBN 1000 plan costs $90 per month, which is a $10.95 ongoing monthly discount.
Based on the advertised evening speeds, SpinTel hovers around the middle of the pack. Its NBN 250 plan averages 240Mbps down and 22Mbps up during busy hours, while the NBN 1000 plan averages 750Mbps down and 42Mbps up.
SpinTel’s CEO, Liam Bal, recently claimed that Australians pay too much for home internet and buy speeds they don’t need. The executive’s comments follow a study conducted by the telco, finding that 70% of Australians won’t choose slower speeds to save money.
“Most consumers don’t realise that a slower speed, at a reduced cost, can easily meet their needs while saving money,” Bal said.
But for those who are confident in wanting high-speed internet, this deal could be good value in the long run. Comparing SpinTel’s faster NBN plans with the competition, the cost is cheaper than most, even in the short term.
