Recent LG TVs can now stream Xbox games without the need for a separate console, as the app lands on its webOS platform.
As announced at CES 2025, the Xbox app lets you play a library of games via cloud streaming as part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription service. LG follows the app’s availability on Samsung TVs and Amazon’s Fire TV devices, expanding Microsoft’s platform-agnostic approach to gaming.
There’s a fairly extensive library of games to stream, too. The recently launched Oblivion Remastered is available on Game Pass, as are the likes of Avowed and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. No doubt plenty of folks will flock to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, one of the service’s flagship titles.
The Xbox app will work on compatible LG TVs that support webOS 24, including the brand’s OLED TVs from 2022 onwards. The brand’s QNED, NanoCell, and UHD range dating back to 2023 also support the Xbox app. It also works on various LG smart monitors, provided they run on a compatible version of webOS.
Once installed, the app prompts you to connect a controller via Bluetooth and log in to your Xbox account. From there, the dashboard is immediately familiar to Xbox users, listing rows of games available to stream.
As expected of a cloud streaming service, you need a decent internet connection to get the most out of it. Speed isn’t necessarily the biggest factor; Xbox recommends download speeds of at least 20Mbps over a 5GHz network. If the strength of your Wi-Fi network isn’t up to scratch, a wired Ethernet connection might be the ticket.
Alongside the newly minted Xbox app, LG TVs also have Nvidia GeForce Now, another cloud-based service that plays your PC games on virtual machines. Although not quite ubiquitous, these services push towards a future not tethered to games hardware ownership.
