Lots of home appliance brands sell vacuums that empty themselves; it’s also a common feature among robot vacuums. Until now, Dyson was conspicuously absent, with no auto-emptying cordless stick vacuum to its name. That’s changed, however, with the launch of the Dyson V10 Konical.
Leaning heavily into the branding, the auto-empty station that comes with the Konical is called the “Auto-empty Dok”. Yes, it’s spelt with just a ‘k’. Strange naming convention aside, the station empties the vacuum each time it’s docked, while keeping the appliance charged between uses.
Dyson says its new vacuum uses a specially designed conical head designed to stop tangles. Households with pets or long-haired occupants are among the target market for this vacuum.
With all the fur, hair, and dust picked up by the vacuum’s 150 air-watt suction power, Dyson estimates the docking station holds up to 60 days of cleaning. It’ll use dust bags, which will help reduce exposure to dust and other nasties, but it means an ongoing cost (and remembering to buy new bags).
There’s good news and bad news regarding the availability of Dyson’s latest vacuum technology. Starting with the good news, the Dyson V10 Konical is available to buy now in Australia for $799. More good news is that the separately sold Auto-empty Dok is backward compatible, so Dyson V8 Cyclone owners don’t need to replace their vacuums.
So, what’s the bad news? Dyson hasn’t confirmed when the Auto-empty Dok is coming yet. All that we know for now is that it’s coming to Australia “later this year”.
Earlier in the year, Dyson debuted the PencilWash, an ultra-slim wet-dry vacuum with a 38mm diameter. At least you can mop your floors while waiting for Dyson to bring its long-awaited auto-empty technology to Australia.
