A Miami waterfront mansion once owned by Madonna has been put on the market for $31.75 million by its current owner — a dog named Gunther.
The German shepherd — officially Gunther VI — is the latest in a line of canine beneficiaries of the will of dog-loving countess Karlotta Liebenstein.
The Biscayne Bay house is just one of the holdings of a trust now worth almost $500 million.
Gunther is a jet-setting world traveler, and his main home is in Italy’s Tuscany. The trust that has overseen the interests of four Gunthers since the countess’s 1992 death decided that, given the hot real estate market, it was a good time to sell the Miami property.
When Madonna sold the eight-room home two decades ago, she got only $7.5 million.
Carla Riccitelli is one of Gunther’s main caretakers and is on a board that manages the trust, deciding when to buy and sell real estate. The group has even purchased sports teams, including a men’s soccer team and women’s swimming team and, yes, Gunther played on the field and attended the meets, she said.
Real estate agent Ruthie Assouline nabbed the listing with her husband, Ethan, for the 1.2-acre property.
The Assoulines are accustomed to multimillion-dollar listings, but this one seemed unbelievable.
“When it was explained that this house was bought by this German shepherd, I was like, ‘What are you talking about? I’m not following you,'” Ruthie Assouline said.
“He lives in Madonna’s former master bedroom,” she said of her canine client. “He literally sleeps overlooking the most magnificent view in an Italian custom bed in the former bedroom of the greatest pop star in the world.”
A chef cooks Gunther’s breakfast each morning, with prime meat, fresh vegetables and rice. Sometimes he has caviar. He travels by private jet and works on obedience skills daily with his trainer.
Back in Italy, Riccitelli has two other dogs that live with Gunther — his favorite playmates.
But she also has six cats and a couple of chickens. “He’s still learning to be with six cats,” Riccitelli said.
