Oakland: 19-year-old man killed in I-580 crash

OAKLAND — A 19-year-old man was killed in a car crash early Saturday morning on Interstate 580 in Oakland, authorities said.

The driver of a Scion sedan was traveling westbound on I-580 at around 6:45 a.m. when he collided with an SUV near 14th Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer David Arias. The Scion then spun out and crashed into the freeway abutment.

The Scion driver, who was alone in the car, suffered fatal injuries. His identity was not released pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.

It was not immediately clear how many people were in the SUV, but no other injuries were reported, Arias said. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
