Wilkins, Van Ginkel available at Jets; but Dolphins have surprise inactive

The two Dolphins players that entered questionable for Miami’s game Sunday at the New York Jets are available, but there was a surprise inactive ahead of kickoff.

Dolphins running back Salvon Ahmed was one of the team’s five inactive players Sunday, a day after Miami elevated former Miami Hurricanes running back Duke Johnson to the active roster from the practice squad.

Ahmed has run for 2.7 yards per carry (109 yards on 41 attempts) in 10 previous appearances this season as starting running back Myles Gaskin’s primary backup. Third running back Patrick Laird, who also contributes on special teams, remained on the game-day roster.

The Dolphins have defensive tackle Christian Wilkins and outside linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel active after the two entered questionable — Van Ginkel with a back injury and Wilkins with a quadriceps ailment. Wilkins missed Wednesday practice this past week, returning for Thursday and Friday sessions as a limited participant. Van Ginkel was limited throughout the week of practice.

Other Dolphins inactives were cornerback Noah Igbinoghene, tight end Hunter Long, defensive tackle John Jenkins and linebacker Darius Hodge.

It’s the second time this season undrafted rookie Trill Williams is active at cornerback ahead of Igbinoghene, a 2020 first-round pick.

This story will be updated.
