Woman shot to death in Richmond is identified

A woman shot to death during a hail of bullets Monday afternoon in Richmond has been identified by authorities.

Demetra Brock, 50, died at the scene after more than one bullet hit her in the upper torso, Richmond police Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said. She was in the 300 block of Maine Avenue in the city’s Santa Fe neighborhood.

Pomeroy said the department has investigated 18 homicides this year.

A ShotSpotter recorded about 20 shots at 5:23 p.m. at a location about four blocks away from where officers found Brock, Pomeroy said. Nobody else was reported to be injured.

“We’re not sure if it it recorded echoes, but the recorded shots were not where the victim was,” he said.

Police have not identified any suspects or made any arrests. They have not said whether they believe she was targeted. Pomeroy said at least one other person was with her.
