Bright Samsung Premiere 9 projector is coming to Australia

Adding to its growing list of IFA 2024 announcements, Samsung has confirmed the launch of its Premiere 9 and 7 Projectors in Australia.

Both are ultra-short throw projectors, meaning they can sit incredibly close to a projecting surface and beam up a large picture. Of the two, the Samsung Premiere 9 Projector is the slightly fancier model, using triple laser technology to produce a brighter and more colour-precise image.

For comparison, the Premiere 9 reaches 3,450 ISO lumens of peak brightness, while the Premiere 7 caps out at 2,500 ISO lumens. That’s not to say there’s a large gulf between them – far from it. Both projectors are sharp 4K resolution, capable of creating 130-inch pictures. If the source material isn’t native to 4K, the projectors use AI upscaling technology to make it look nice and crisp.

Each projector also supports the HDR10+ format so you benefit from a strong dynamic range between bright and dark scenes. Even the Samsung Premiere 7 covers 100% of the cinema-grade DCI-P3 colour gamut, while the Premiere 9 covers 154%. In other words, they produce highly accurate colours, particularly suited to movies and TV shows.

Dolby Atmos audio support comes with both projectors, each one equipped with built-in speakers. The Premiere 9 houses 40W 2.2.2-channel speakers, and the Premiere 7’s 30W speakers are 2.2-channel.

Built on Samsung’s Tizen OS platform, the projectors also tie in with the brand’s SmartThings ecosystem. That means you can control other smart devices from one location, while the projectors also support smartphone casting, cloud gaming, and smart speaker functionality.

Samsung Premiere 9 and 7 Projector release date and price in Australia

Set to arrive in Australia “over the coming months”, Samsung’s latest premium short throw projectors don’t yet have a confirmed price. They’re out now overseas, with the Premiere 9 UK listing priced at £5,999. A straight currency conversion puts it close to AU$12,000, so it’s definitely on the premium end of the scale.

We’ll let you know once we have confirmed the Australian details.
