Plenty of gaming routers claim to prioritise traffic when playing online so Netflix streams and background downloads don’t get in the way. Some routers do this at a software level via an app, others include a dedicated Ethernet port for plugging in gaming PCs and consoles. Taking things a step further, the new Asus ROG Strix GS-BE18000 Wi-Fi 7 router has two dedicated gaming ports.
Looking at its specs page, the ROG Strix GS-BE18000 includes many of the Wi-Fi 7 features you’d expect. It has three network bands (2.4, 5, and 6GHz) with wider capacity, 4K-QAM for squeezing in more data, and Multi-Link Operation, a technology that works to try and use multiple network bands to get the best connection.
Over wireless, the ROG Strix GS-BE18000’s three network bands reach a theoretical total throughput of 18,000Mbps. Via cables, that number jumps to 20,000Mbps spread over eight separate ports. Of those ports, two of the 2.5Gbps LAN slots prioritise gaming traffic. As Asus puts it, any devices plugged into those get priority traffic “without the need for manual configuration”.
That gaming focus extends to the router’s wireless connectivity too. It’s possible to create multiple SSIDs to segment online traffic and prioritise specific connections. For example, you could make one SSID exclusive to your gaming devices, another for any IoT gadgets, and an extra SSID for anything else. In theory, it helps free up bandwidth when gaming, while keeping smart home tech separate from everything else.
And, of course, there’s customisable RGB lighting; it wouldn’t be a gaming device without flashy lights. Otherwise, when compared to other gaming routers, the ROG Strix GS-BE18000 has a fairly understated design.
Asus hasn’t confirmed a price for Australia yet, so expect more details to come closer to the router’s October 2025 launch window.
