Angry Birds is back with new Apple Arcade game

Once a behemoth of the mobile gaming scene, the Angry Birds franchise is back with a new game. Called Angry Birds Bounce, the latest entry from Finnish studio Rovio lands on Apple Arcade next month.

A staple during the early days of the App Store, Angry Birds was a cultural phenomenon when it brought its physics-based puzzles to i-devices in 2009. Countless sequels and spin-offs followed in subsequent years, before a wider industry shift to free-to-play mobile gaming and aggressive monetisation saw the series slow down in recent times.

Now, Angry Birds Bounce reinvents the original formula as an Apple Arcade exclusive when it launches on 3 July. Instead of toppling structures, Bounce looks to focus on taking down pigs from a top-down perspective, like the classic brick-breaking games of old.

Of the new entry in the long-running series, Angry Birds Bounce‘s game lead Bryan Cook told Apple that it will include “the largest roster of Angry Birds characters ever”.

Angry Birds Bounce reinvents the classic Angry Birds formula with a vertical twist, refreshing the gameplay while staying true to the brand’s DNA,” Cook said.

Being an Apple Arcade game, Bounce looks to arrest a common frustration with free-to-play mobile games. To make money, many free games are designed to encourage you to spend money so you can keep playing. No in-game purchases and no advertising are two non-negotiables of games included on Apple Arcade, which costs $9.99 per month in Australia.

So, don’t expect to see any obtrusive paywalls get in the way of Angry Birds Bounce when it arrives on 3 July.

What else is coming to Apple Arcade?

Bird-flinging action isn’t the only new game or update on the way. Another Apple Arcade exclusive comes in the form of a crossover between the beloved TV series Bluey and Fruit Ninja Classic+. Starting on 19 June, the Australian-made fruit-dicing game will get a bunch of Bluey-themed rewards to unlock. Plus, it just looks damn cute.

Also coming to Apple’s gaming service in July are Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD+, Suika Game+, Crayola Scribble Scrubbie Pets+. Available now are UNO: Arcade Edition, LEGO Hill Climb Adventures+, Lost in Play+, and Helix Jump+. Meanwhile, Apple Vision Pro owners get a platform-specific version of the surrealist comedy What the Car? to enjoy, adding to What the Golf?, one of Apple Arcade’s best games.

It’ll be interesting to see Apple’s gaming strategy moving forward; the company recently acquired the studio behind Sneaky Sasquatch ahead of an expected gaming app reveal at WWDC 2025.
