Hisense launches the petite M2 Pro projector in Australia

More portable than its previous speakers, Hisense has launched the M2 Pro projector in Australia to make big-screen viewing easier at home.

Smaller and cheaper than the impressive $4,499 C2 Ultra projector, the $2,499 M2 Pro is billed as a more versatile home projector. Its maximum 200-inch image size may not reach the 300 inches of the C2 Ultra, but that’s still a huge picture by living room standards.

Other than a dimmer 1,300 ANSI lumens brightness level (the C2 Ultra reaches up to 3,000 lumens) most of the M2 Pro’s features line up favourably alongside the pricier projector. It projects in full 4K resolution and supports Dolby Vision, producing a sharp image in HDR.

A lot of the smarts carry over too. Hisense labels its collection of auto-adjustment features “Auto Magic AI Adjusting 2.0”, sorting out various settings without manual intervention. It covers settings like keystone, image focus, and automatically avoiding objects on the wall, like power outlets. Hisense also claims the projector adjusts the image’s colours based on the colour of the wall it’s projecting on.

Installed with Hisense’s VIDAA operating system, the M2 Pro can natively stream content from platforms like Netflix and Disney+. If a streaming service isn’t natively available, you can cast media from Apple devices using AirPlay.

For gaming, the M2 Pro supports a 60Hz refresh rate in 4K, and up to 240Hz with the resolution dialled back to 2K.

From an audio perspective, the M2 Pro has both Dolby Audio and DTS Virtual X certifications. However, unless its dual 10W speakers produce up-firing sound, it’s unlikely to capture the full extent of the audio format.

It’s likely to sound thinner than the C2 Ultra, which also has a built-in 20W subwoofer. But one can’t be too picky over the sound from a small projector that costs $2,000 less than its premium counterpart.

Hisense’s M2 Pro projector is out now via the brand’s website and retailers like JB Hi-Fi.
