11-year-old girl, mother shot in Oakland home

OAKLAND — An 11-year-old girl and her mother were wounded Sunday night by someone who shot into their East Oakland home from outside, authorities said.

Both the girl and her 40-year-old mother were in stable condition.

The shooting was reported about 10:25 p.m. Sunday in the 7500 block of Sterling Drive, a residential area just south of Interstate 580.

Police said the girl and her mother were in the front room of the residence when at least one person standing outside  began shooting into the home.

The mother was stuck in the torso and the girl in an arm, authorities said.

More than 20 shots were recorded by ShotSpotter, authorities said.

Authorities have not said if anyone else was in the home. No other injuries were reported.

The shooter fled the scene in a vehicle.

Police have not determined a motive yet for the shooting or said why they believe the home was targeted.  No arrests have been made.
