Aussie sports fans will notice a big difference in the Kayo mobile app in the coming weeks, as the streamer takes on a distinctly social media vibe. A revamped sports watching experience is on the way, including a TikTok-style feed of highlights to scroll through.
It’s part of a big update rolling out to the phone and tablet versions of the Kayo Sports app over the next month. Described as “the first significant upgrade” to the app since its 2018 launch, one of the update’s most notable additions is the “Moments Player”. It takes the form of a vertical video feed of sports highlights users can scroll through, much like the format popularised by TikTok in recent years.
Along with the new video feed, the updated Kayo Sports app includes a redesigned home page. It reportedly makes it easier to find sports content via better search functionality and page layouts.

“Enhanced Favourites” is another touted upgrade, which aims to surface user-preferred content. Kayo Sports previously supported choosing favourite sports, but it hasn’t necessarily put preferred sporting codes front and centre. Even after choosing AFL as my favourite sport, I often still see NRL games listed before Aussie Rules, despite games often running concurrently.
Tom Blaxland, Foxtel Group’s Executive Director of Product – Streaming Advertising, acknowledged that “sport on mobile is very different to TV”, hence the app update.
“We know live sport is just one part of the viewing experience, with fans also eager to consume stats, analysis, highlights, recaps and key moments,” Blaxland said. “This is not just an app update, but a complete reimagining of how fans connect with the sports and shows they love.”
Kayo’s updated app follows recent price increases across both the Standard and Premium tiers. According to Foxtel, now owned by DAZN, the app update will come to iOS and Android devices “over the next month”.
