OAKLAND — A drive-by shooting Thursday night in the Fruitvale district in East Oakland left a 19-year-old man who had been sitting in a stopped vehicle in critical condition, authorities said.
Another man in the vehicle was not hurt.
The shooting, which was recorded by ShotSpotter technology, was reported about 9:44 p.m. in the 3800 block of Foothill Boulevard.
Police said the two men were in a vehicle that was stopped in the eastbound center turning lane when someone in a passing eastbound vehicle began shooting at them.
The 19-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his neck area and was taken to a hospital.
The vehicle the shooter was in, possibly a dark Honda, was last seen driving northbound on 40th Avenue, authorities said..
A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests have been made.
