Peninsula man robbed, carjacked in North Oakland

OAKLAND — A 61-year-old Half Moon Bay man was robbed and carjacked Tuesday evening in the Rockridge district of North Oakland, authorities said.

His stolen Mercedes Benz C250 was still missing Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Authorities said the man had just parked his car in the 5700 block of Miles Avenue near the Rockridge BART Station about 5 p.m. Tuesday and was outside the vehicle when he was approached from behind by four men.

One of the men punched the man in the back of his head, causing him to fall, police said.

The suspects then took his car keys, cell phone and wallet before fleeing in the Mercedes, police said.  Detailed descriptions of the suspects were not released.

The man declined medical attention.  Police have not said what the man was doing in Oakland.

Police earlier this week said carjackings in Oakland were up 85 percent over the same period last year.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3326 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
