Permanent price drop comes to popular DJI Osmo Pocket 3

Permanent price drop comes to popular DJI Osmo Pocket 3

Among video creators, all the attention might currently be on the newly launched DJI Osmo Pocket 4P. And that makes sense; it’s the shiny new thing with two lenses that costs a chunk less than the competing Insta360 Luna Ultra gimbal camera. But perhaps lost in the news is a price drop for the DJI Osmo Pocket 3.

According to a disclaimer on DJI’s website, the price of the Osmo Pocket 3 will drop to $599 starting on 3 August, down from $679. A roughly 11 per cent decrease isn’t anything to sneeze at, but it doesn’t tell the full picture.

Back in 2023, when the Osmo Pocket 3 first launched, the camera alone cost $849. Compare that with the upcoming price drop, and you’re looking at a nearly 30 per cent reduction. During a time when the global memory shortage has driven tech prices skyward, it’s nice to see some older tech actually get cheaper.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that the camera is pretty dang good. I have one for filming events and b-roll, and Valens Quinn raved about the Osmo Pocket 3 when it launched.

For those unfamiliar, it’s a small gimbal camera with a large one-inch CMOS sensor, so it’s great at capturing lots of light, even during nighttime. Lots of vloggers and creators love it for the auto-tracking functionality, so they can put the camera on a tripod, hit record, and stay in the centre of the frame, even if they move around.

It’s not clear whether the creator combo — which comes with more accessories, like a battery handle and DJI Mid 2 transmitter — will also get a price drop. GadgetGuy has contacted DJI to clarify and will report back with any updates.

Regardless, it’s nice that one of the best creator cameras in recent years is getting even more affordable.
