Espresso recently launched the Display 15 in Australia, an affordable non-touchscreen version of the Sydney company’s portable external monitor, and it’s already looking like a smart decision.
An alternative to the brand’s Touch 15, the Espresso Display 15 is identical in nearly every way. Other than the omitted touch functionality, the Display 15 is almost 100 grams lighter. It also comes with the improved Stand+ attachment, a magnetic holder for the monitor that can adjust its height.
Espresso’s decision to offer an entry-level option makes a notable difference to the price tag. With an RRP of $568, it’s even more affordable than the Touch 15, which is normally priced at $749. For those of us who want a portable external monitor but don’t need any touch controls, it’s a no-brainer.
The revised model retains the 15.6-inch size of its predecessor, 16.8 million colours covering the sRGB gamut, a Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, and a 60Hz refresh rate. Using LCD technology, it might only reach 300 nits of peak brightness, but the portability is a big win.
There are various laptops with built-in secondary displays, like the Asus Zenbook Duo or Lenovo‘s Yoga Book 9i, but they cost a sizable investment. Something like the Espresso Display 15 is a more affordable and customisable alternative for your laptop. It’s the sort of thing that appeals to travelling power-users, creatives, coders and analysts, and also suits general productivity tasks so you can read multiple documents at the same time.
Available to order now, the Espresso Display 15 has a launch discount as part of Black Friday, priced at $499 via Espresso’s website. It comes bundled with a bonus microfibre case that doubles as a kickstand in a pinch. You can see it in action via our latest YouTube video.
