As the end of 2024 approaches, the Black Friday sales are already upon us, well before the official start date. One of the best times to grab a discount on consumer technology, it’s worth planning for Black Friday ahead of time so you’re not caught off guard.
As an indication of how big the global sale event has become locally, the Australian Retailers Association mentioned spending in excess of $6 billion during last year’s Black Friday. That’s a whopping amount of cash by anyone’s standards.
Year in, year out, the annual sale features deep discounts on the biggest tech brands. Apple, LG and Samsung frequently dominate the deals, with shoppers keen to find a bargain. It’s also a time of risk, thanks to scammers looking to make a quick buck.
We’ve got details on a bunch of early Black Friday sales already, including when the sale will kick off in earnest.

What is Black Friday?
Synonymous with deals and discounts aplenty, Black Friday is an annual retail event that sees shops and brands alike discount their respective wares. Like many things, it began in the US before finding its way to Australian shores. Now, you can shop Black Friday sales in-store and online, letting you spend however you see fit.
Black Friday owes its growing popularity to the sheer number of discounts available on a range of products. For those of us into technology and gadgets, it’s a haven of tech deals across many of the biggest brands.
When is Black Friday 2024 in Australia?
In Australia, Black Friday officially falls on 29 November 2024, with the subsequent Cyber Monday to follow on 2 December. Based on its North American roots, the sale event always happens on the Friday after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Even though we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, it seems that Aussies can’t get enough of shopping big sales imported from overseas. You only need to look as far as Amazon Prime Day as evidence of the trend.
Many retailers and brands have already started their Black Friday sales, so you can expect a month-long bonanza of discounts.
