Samsung Galaxy S25: All the big news and rumours so far

We’re rapidly approaching 2025, which means it’s not long until Samsung starts talking about its Galaxy S25 phones. The rumour mill is in full swing, filled with countless credible-looking reports about what we can expect. The S24 Ultra is one of the best phones in Australia in our eyes, so we’re keen to see what’s next.

So far, there’s a lot of talk about the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and its design. Replete with a titanium refresh, the existing S24 Ultra adopts a more rounded design than competing smartphones. Next year’s release could see a change to a pronounced rectangular body, closer in line with the iPhone 16 Pro and Google Pixel 9 Pro handsets.

Although it’s always tricky to separate fact from fiction when speculation runs rampant, there’s always an element of truth to be found. Here’s what we know about the Samsung Galaxy S25 range so far.

Samsung Galaxy S25 news and rumours

Samsung Galaxy S25 release date and price in Australia

Samsung hasn’t yet revealed when exactly it’ll release its new phone. Historically, the brand reveals its flagship phones in the first quarter of the year. The current Samsung Galaxy S24 range arrived in Australia on 7 February 2024, following a January reveal, slightly earlier than the brand’s previous phones.

Based on previous launches, expect to see Samsung announce a February 2025 release date for its Galaxy S25 phones.

It’s still too early to tell just how much the Samsung Galaxy S25 will cost in Australia, but the price of the S24 range gives us an indication. Both the S24 and S24+ models were $50 more than the corresponding S23 phones, while the S24 Ultra cost $250 more.

To give you an indication, here’s how much the Galaxy S24 phones cost:

Samsung Galaxy S24 price in Australia:

  • $1,399 (256 GB)
  • $1,599 (512GB)

Samsung Galaxy S24+ price in Australia

  • $1,699 (256GB)
  • $1,899 (512GB)

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra price in Australia

  • $2,199 (256GB)
  • $2,399 (512GB)
  • $2,799 (1TB)

Features

Alongside the S24 range, Samsung launched its Galaxy AI platform of generative AI features. Google’s Circle to Search, Chat Assist, Photo Assist, and Live Translate headlined the set of tools, and it appears Samsung will double down on its AI efforts.

According to Samsung Australia, roughly 80% of Galaxy S24 owners use Galaxy AI features every month. Since then, the company has expanded the language support of its translation features and rolled out integration with its Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Buds devices.

As for the Galaxy S25 range, Samsung’s recent quarterly financial report mentioned the company would “expand S25 series sales by offering a complete Galaxy AI experience”. Beyond the likelihood of new features and refinements to existing ones, it’s a fairly vague statement.

Specs, design and colours

Early rumours suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will have a flatter, less-rounded design than previous handsets. A render from Android Headlines shows a potential S25 Ultra design in black, looking noticeably more rectangular than the S24 Ultra. Rumoured colours include black, blue, green, and titanium.

Additional rumours relate to Samsung’s choice of chipset. In Australia, Samsung launched the S24 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 system-on-a-chip from Qualcomm, while the S24 and S24+ employed Samsung’s own Exynos 2400 chip. However, there’s a chance that every S25 model will use the new Snapdragon 8 Elite platform.

Samsung revealed several new camera sensors for mobile devices in June 2024, including a 200MP telephoto sensor. According to Samsung, it’s the “industry’s first 200MP telephoto sensor for smartphones”. Given the Ultra series’ track record of using the latest camera technology, it’s possible that the S25 Ultra will use this new sensor. The S24 Ultra has a 200MP wide-angle sensor alongside the phone’s 50MP and 10MP telephoto sensors.
